Welcome!
“Sparrow's
Nightmare” is a small hobby
cattery
with two breeding Queens, one
breeding male, a few youngsters and some spayed cats.
|
Our cats - females and
males - are totally
integrated into our
domestic life; they live with me, my husband, our two
foster children and our dog as family members in a large and cosy house
in
the district of Hameln/Pyrmont near
Hannover in Germany.
|
Fair-to-breed living
conditions is the top
priority for all our animals. Our animals can use all rooms in
our house - except the children´s bedrooms and
our bathroom. We don't hold them separate, in cat-rooms or in separate
rooms or cages.
All regular
vaccinations for our cats and kittens are administered several times a
year exclusively in our home allowing our veterinarian, the animal
clinic Eimbeckhausen, full access into the habitat and surroundings as
well as offering an honest insight of the living and health conditions
of our cattery. The advantage of such home visits is a relaxed
initial vet introduction in a stress free environment which
usually carries over to any future vet visits.
We
are looking to place preferably our babies in pet-loving
homes. They will
go (pets -> being early spayed/early neutered!) at the age of 14-16
weeks, chipped, with current certificate of health, tested (labor)
FeLV/FIV, full vaccinated and come with copies of the HCM, PKD, HD test
results of their parents to you.
Our breeding goal: sturdy, long-lived
and affectionate Maine Coon cats. We love the moderate type,
without any extreme features - from the beginnings of the Maine
Coon breed: "Historic
Maine Coons before 1980". To us breeding means: preserving
the original features of this naturally developed cat
breed instead of selecting to cater for constantly
changing breeding trends. Therefore we enrich the gene
pool with our kittens by carefully selecting the parents and
working partly with very old lines / outcross and foundation
lines. Our
cats and their parents are tested / will be tested: HD, PKD, PL, FIV,
FeLV and
regular HCM (ultrasound/color doppler and DNA-test variant 1).
Veterinarians for HCM and PKD are Dr.
Ralf Tobias and Dr. Dirk Lüerssen (certificated veterinarians for
HCM and PKD).
******* Update 2014 *******
In the fall of 2012,
our foster son at the age of 21 spread his wings and moved into an
assisted living community. He was the last of our foster children to
leave home, which for us created the chance to realize a long-cherished
dream - in April 2014 we and our twelve cats moved to the U.S. and call
the
state of Maine home.
